The Day It All Changed

I was 22, fresh out of my Bachelors program, with a new husband and no idea of how to manage money. It was January 4, 2016 and instead of contentment and residual holiday joy, I felt panic and shame.

We had $0 in our checking account.
$0 in our savings account.
No investing portfolio to be found.
$0 to our names.

I decided in that moment, with tears welling up in my eyes, that I was done.

I was done following in the footsteps of the money mismanagement I had grown up with.

I was done having to choose between medication and food.

I was done struggling every single day because I didn’t know what I was doing with finances.

I decided to change.

Time To Pull Myself Together

I created my Instagram page to document my journey, broke out my markers to create a debt payoff chart, and read Dave Ramsey’s book, Total Money Makeover in one night.

For the next year and a half, all I thought about was climbing out of debt.

I stopped spending money, worked my ass off, budgeted every single cent and surrounded myself with people who were on the same path.

From January 4, 2016 to August 25, 2017, I paid off over $50,000.

This may seem like the perfect sequence of events:

*Girl finds out she’s doing it all wrong, manages to turn her life around, parades and celebrations everywhere.*

Unfortunately, that’s not how it went.

From 2017-2018, I managed to pay for my divorce in cash, and save up $7,000 by couch surfing and living on ramen noodles. But… I accrued more debt in the form of a car loan. Womp womp. And that’s when I turned from Dave Ramsey and really stepped into my power as the financial feminist I am now.

We just keep it pushin’ like aye aye aye

In 2019 I met my second husband, Joe, and moved to Boulder, Colorado. I decided I was done playing the corporate game and opened my own business, Weir Digital Marketing.

In 2021, I crossed the debt freedom line… again, paying off a total of $71k in 5 years.

Here’s the deal:

  • I’m not a former stock broker, finance professional, or economist

  • I’m not a old, rich, white dude

  • I’m not someone who thinks it’s “my way or the highway”

  • I’m not going to unveil how to ‘get rich quick’ (If you know how, email me)

I’m here because I believe financial education, resources and help should be accessible to all people seeking it.

There are 7 billion people on this planet, and every single one of them comes in contact with money. My passion is to help as many of them as I can.

So let me guide you on your trek to financial freedom.
